10/17/07 - Kirkwood to Sponsor Sunday’s Central European Challenge Cup Classic

Magna Racino near Vienna, Austria will host the Central European Challenge Cup Classic to be held Sunday, October 21, 2007. Kip Elser’s Kirkwood Stable has been named title sponsor of the 2200-meter Central European Challenge Cup Classic. Magna Racino is a state-of-the-art, dual purpose race track, opened by Frank Stronach’s Magna Entertainment Group in April, 2004. Since then, it has hosted the annual challenge which draws top flat and harness racehorses from Eastern Europe.
Favorites for this year’s Classic are Stall MPL Racing’s Austrian Derby winner Proud Boris (Silvano) and Stall Szindikatus’ Hungarian Derby winner Saldenzar (Zinaad). Nine entered the 2200-meter contest which carries a purse of 20,000 Euro. The Kirkwood Stables Grand Prix is the sixth of nine races on the card which also features 20,000 Euro events for sprinters, milers, and two-year-olds.

10/22/07 - RESULTS: Proud Boris Wins the Kirkwood Stables Grand Prix in the Central European Challenge Cup

Racing fans at Magna Racino near Vienna, Austria on Sunday, October 21 were entertained with a thrilling win in the Kirkwood Stables Grand Prix by odds on favorite Proud Boris (Silvano) owned by Stall MPL Racing and trained by Jaroslav Hanacek.  Only a head and a nose separated the top three finishers in the 2200 meter race, with Hipoliner (Belenus) and Saldenzar (Zinaad) completing the three-horse photo.

Results from other the featured races on the card are: Overdose (Starborough) remains undefeated and notched an impressive 8-length win in the Grade 1 (AUT) Futurity, trained by Ribarszki Sandor and owned by Stall SCH Racing. The Grade 1 (AUT) Mile was won by Jeczmien (Forth of July), trained by Ziemianski Krzysztof and owned by Stall Damis BT. Heavy favorite Scyris (In Camera) took the win money home in the Grade 1 (AUT) Sprint, trained by Holcak Frantisek, and owned by Herr Charvat Dr. Jin Group.
