Kip Elser’s Kirkwood Stables sent out hip 220, a filly by GI Kentucky Derby winner Super Saver to earn the co-bullet quarter-mile time of :21 2/5. Her excellent work and racy looks got her a lot of attention from viewers at the sale and she sold well to Ralph M Evans for $290,00.
G 3 stakes placed at 2, BERNED (Bernardini) was runner-up in Aqueduct’s G3 Tempted S. in the fall of 2016. Transferred to Graham Motion she won her first out as a sophmore today at Monmouth. She split horses on the far turn and took control to win by 2 1/4 lengths over the favorite. She is owned by Three C Stables, West Point Thoroughbreds & Robert Masiello and has earned over $125,000.
West Point’s well named Einstein gelding, SCHOLAR ATHLETE, broke his maiden and was stakes placed at Woodbine as a 2 year old. Still going strong at 4, he kicked away and wired the field to win going 1 1/16 on the turf at Monmouth. SCHOLAR ATHLETE is trained by Graham Motion.
2 year old filly SILVER SIDNEY (Sidney’s Candy) was sold by Kirkwood at OBS March for $130,000. She is now owned by Warren and Murray C. Wilcox and trained by Warren Wilcox. Racing 7 furlongs on the turf at Woodbine, she was either on or close to the lead and surprised the crowd with her 2 length win.
Kirkwood had a fourth winner today as I`M BETTY G (into Mischief) broke her maiden at Indiana Grand for Three Diamonds farm and Mike Maker.

The bay, a $90,000 Fasig-Tipton Midlantic Fall Yearling purchase by Walnut Green, is out of multiple stakes winner Wish It Were (Is It True) and is a halfsister to stakes winner Ancient Rome (Roman Ruler) and stakes placed Little Hitman (Wildcat Heir). “I knew she would be right up with the fastest horses today,” Elser said of the filly. “She’s always been a very nice filly. She’s not a really tall filly, but she’s beautifully balanced and just a very efficient mover.” Elser admitted he’s a big fan of the Timonium track. “These guys do a great job with the track,” he said. ANo matter the weather, this is always a safe surface to work on.”
STREET SURRENDER (Street Boss), trained by Jerry Hollendorfer for West Point Thoroughbreds. circled the field 4 wide and dueled for the win through the stretch. She just missed the win, but with the place she gained her first black-type and improved her value as a broodmare.
3 yo RED CORVETTE (Warrior’s Reward) is owned by Carolyn Friedberg, Carolyn and Jeff T. Larson and was bred by Hunter Valley Farm & Bourque Goldstein Thoroughbreds, LLC. Going a mile on the all weather track at Arlingtin he was slow off the mark but then burst through to earn the win by over 3 lengths. He is trained by Richard R. Scherer.
TOM’S READY (More than Ready), winner of the Woody Stephen Stakes (G 2) in June 2016 at Belmont Park, and the Ack Ack S. (G 3) at Churchill that fall, added to his pedigree page on KY Derby Day running a very close third in the G2- Churchill Downs S. At retirement, he will stand at Spendthrift Farm following an agreement with owner GMB Racing to acquire the breeding rights to the son of More Than Ready. He has earned $715,767.
